Crompton Ale House Menu New York, NY Restaurant

Home to more than 750 whiskeys, the Flatiron Room is an enthusiast's delight... But it is also a nice place for a change of pace for the whiskey amateurs among us. After spending some time in the more typical Manhattan bar scene, this more low-key, conversational venue can be just what the doctor ordered (all things in moderation, of course). Walking in, we were immediately struck by the colored lighting, adjusted throughout the night, and the beautiful stage hung with lush velvety curtains. The main room is candlelit and brings to mind a theater, caf̩e, bar and library all rolled into one. Each evening, a band takes the stage to play live music, typically jazz.

At the end of our meal, we struck up a conversation with one of the owners, Justin, who told us that he gave up being a real estate broker to pursue his passion for food. He helped turn Chelsea Market into the success that it is, and then came to open up this second location. Not via classical training in the kitchen, but rather through his love of food and hospitality, "traveling down a long road, " he has finally been able to open up his dream. Working with a young design couple from Tribeca, they created something simple using distressed wood and antique mirrors. "The decor is kick ass, " Justin exclaimed.

Today, Kerstin continues to run her company with the help of her daughter, Rebecca, and they have expanded to forty-seven stores nationwide. The company has maintained its funky, fun vibe and reasonable prices even as it has grown so large. We also use different external services like Google Webfonts, Google Maps, and external Video providers.

Seating works on a first-come, first-serve basis, and we have many communal tables for big groups. Don't shuffle the tables around or reserve or block them. No hanging decorations or using chaffing dishes. We don't have waiters, so go to the bar and talk to our friendly staff. Large groups must check in with us prior to arrival or see the manager once on site. Please don’t bring in any food warmers as they damage our tables.

A sommelier schools old hands and the uninitiated alike on Tuesdays. Although the emphasis is on the alcohol and music, the food is also worth mentioning. The menu is eclectic with a charcuterie or cheese plate, an interesting variety of flat breads, salads, spicy broccoli (a favorite), and an array of main dishes. For those looking for a bit more privacy or some shelter from the musical stylings, there is a mezzanine sporting tables and additional private rooms in the back. These seats, and most of the house, are by reservation only, with a few spaces for walk-ins.

I also tasted the fruity rosé sangria (the recipe is a secret). As we sipped our drinks, I admired the impressive seafood royale platter that the customer next to us had ordered. When Angelo returned to the bar, I asked him about the Harold’s menu.

The food is prepared in their very own custom meat-smoking room, and everything is done in the style of Central Texas barbecue. The atmosphere is kitschy and relaxed, with live American music most nights of the week. The cocktail is well done and balanced too. They have a large bar for when dining alone... But it's also great for groups with a lot of tables for larger parties. The bartenders were attentive and friendly without being overbearing...

Couss couss, olives, roasted peppers and lemon jus. Served with mashed potatoes, asparagus and choice of bernaise sauce or au povre. Fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce, and whipped cream. Vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, berries, and whipped cream.

With good music, a great neighborhood vibe, lots of gluten free options, and the most amazing signature potato chips, Manhattan Sideways has no doubt that Friedman's reputation will take off. There is a lot of space to have fun and be funny at Pioneer's, formerly named Comedy Bar. Well that makes sense, as it is owned by Ali Farahnakian, the man behind the PIT (People's Improv Theater) on 24th Street, which opened a new location just down the street in 2015.

Walking into the Harold, a casual bistro located in the heart of Herald Square, I immediately noticed its warm, welcoming atmosphere. A family of tourists in shorts and sneakers munched happily on burgers while business men in suits chatted at the bar. I even witnessed something that I hardly ever see - several young people throughout the multi-level space feeling comfortable enough to dine alone. When I spoke to Angelo, the Harold’s friendly young manager, I commented on the restaurant’s ability to attract people from all walks of life. “I’m glad you noticed, ” he said, and explained that the Harold’s proximity to Penn Station makes it a hub for tourists and commuters as well as locals.

A newcomer to 31st in late 2013, I was happy to discover Friedman's Lunch. Having eaten at their restaurant in Chelsea Market on many occasions, I was quite familiar with them. Glancing quickly at the menu, I knew that I would, once again, have options as a vegetarian. Two of us shared the "House-Made Veggie Burger" with spicy tomato fennel jam, avocado and sprouts, and the "Veggie Bowl" with quinoa, sauteed vegetables, tofu and a delicious sesame lime dressing.

Yet as inspiration for new recipes came to him, he was quick to expand his offerings. “After a long day, I’d put stuff together at home, and if it was good, I’d sell it at the restaurant. ” All of his sandwich creations are named after his loved ones and pets; luckily, he has a surplus of names to choose from, as he is the doting father of eight children. Of course, he used his own name for his personal favorite — the Sloppy Johny — though he is pleased to say that visitors latch onto any and all of his inventions with equal eagerness.

Thursdays, however, are devoted to Cuban music for those who crave a bit more rhythm, while Sundays are bluegrass and bourbon night. Among the deluge of whiskeys, ryes, bourbons and scotches, it can be hard to hone in on favorites. For those who do decide what suits their fancy, the Flatiron Room offers a bottle key program, whereby bottles are available to be opened one night, and stored for future visits.

“It’s not very large, ” he told me, “but we have something for everyone. ” He emphasized the chef’s use of local and seasonal ingredients. When questioned about his favorite menu item, Angelo's eyes lit up.

They certainly do their best to create an environment where one can either sit down at the bar, dine at their own table, or seat themselves at the central communal table and feel relaxed. As Angelo showed me around the Harold’s spacious main floor, I asked him how they had come up with the name. “We started out as ‘The Herald, ’ for Herald Square, but then we realized that it was a pretty common name in the area.
